If the current trends do not change then in 3 or 4 generations’ time 10% of the global population will be Spanish speakers and the country with the highest number of Spanish speakers will be the USA where the increase is predicted to go from 46 million to 136 million and it will become the most used language there.

Spanish is one of the three official languages for the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and moreover it is one of the 6 official languages for the United Nations (UN).

There has been a significant rise in the use of the Spanish language in science. Over the last few years, the number of scientific publications in Spanish has been increasing. In fact since the end of the 20th century it has increased five fold. The benefits of speaking Spanish come mainly from the fact it is the mother tongue for many countries across different continents, the most important of which is the USA where it is used as the 2nd language for business. The growing importance of the Latin American countries which have many trading partners around the globe. It is even becoming more popular in Brazil too.
We should not forget the importance of Spanish when it comes to learning about the culture whether it is literature, film, music or art.
